JEWELRY CARE 101
JEWELRY CARE 101. (A GUIDE TO CLEAN JEWELRY)
Good hygiene is important for both humans and jewelry. Below are a few tips to keep your jewels looking fresh.
1. TARNISH HAPPENS
Sterling Silver and Gold Vermeil will tarnish. Oxidation is natural and is caused by many things such as exposure to air, our environment, and the chemical make up of our bodies. #SCIENCE. To protect your jewelry from exposure to air, we suggest keeping it in an air-tight plastic bag when not being worn. If plastic bag storage is not realistic, keep it in a closed jewelry box. To polish your jewelry, wipe it down with a damp cloth or give it some loving with one of our polishing cloths. You can purchase one HERE.
2. BEAUTY FIRST, JEWELRY SECOND
Drake said, "Got your nails done, hair done, everything did. Oh you fancy Huh?"
I say, "Yo! Get your nails done, hair done, everything did, and then put on your damn jewelry to keep it looking fancy!"
Chemicals in your make up, lotion, and hair products will tarnish jewelry and residue will build up making your sparkly jewels very dull. Make putting on your bling the last part of your beauty routine.
3. JEWELRY IS NOT A TOY
Keep jewels away from your fur babies and tiny tots. My cats love sparkly things and my baby girl has recently found her love for my jewelry. These tiny creatures, though small, can break jewelry rather easily. Keep jewels put away and out of reach when they are not being worn.
4. JEWELRY DOES NOT LIKE HOBBIES OR HARDWORK
Leave your beloved jewels at home while working out, hanging out at the pool, and tending to your garden. Sweat, dirt, chlorine, and sunscreen are all things your jewelry is not a fan of. You may want to look like Rhianna wearing layers of diamonds poolside but trust me, her jewelry hates it.
5. PACK IT UP
Traveling can take a toll on your jewelry. When you are road tripping, jet-setting, or taking your jewelry from work to the gym, keep it organized and separated to avoid a tangled nightmare. Keeping jewelry separated will also prevent metals from rubbing up against one another and scratching.
Peace, love, and protect your jewelry.
